Abigale Lee
Mills (born September 21 1965) was a American dance instructor, choreographer
and reality TV host. Miller is the founder of the Abby Lee Dance Company, which
was featured on the reality TV show Dance Moms for eight seasons. On June 27,
2016, Miller pleaded guilty to criminal bankruptcy fraud. Miller was sentenced
to one and five years in federal prison. She was released on March 27, 2018. In
April of 2018, she was diagnosed with lymphoma which is a kind of cancer that
renders it impossible to walk. To move around, she now uses a wheelchair.
Miller was born in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania. Her mother taught her dance at
Maryen Lorrain Dance Studio. Miller was 14 years old when she was given
choreography and coaching duties on one of her mother's competitive dance
teams. Miller assumed control of the studio , and it was renamed Reign Dance
Productions in 1995. Miller was certified by Dance Masters of America and was a
member of Dance Masters of Pennsylvania Chapter #10 in 1986 however, her
membership was revoked in February 2012 after which the DMA saying that
Miller's show on reality TV Dance Moms was "a total false representation
of our dance educators as well as their students. It is damaging to the dance
industry."
